The Minster Church Ilminster
|
|
|
The Minster Church of St. Mary in Ilminster, Somerset,
is a grade 1 listed building with its present structure dating back to
the 15th Century. |
|
St. Mary's is a large, impressive, hamstone church with
a 16th Century tower probably inspired by that of Wells Cathedral.
Notable features include the Wadham Tombs, a rather splendid North
Chapel, and Jacobean screen. The church entrance has recently been
sympathetically updated with a beautiful set of engraved glass doors and
glass together with a small children's activity area and kitchen area.
The congregation is an active one and welcoming to visitors and new
members of all ages. St. Mary's Church in Ilminster is open daily and
ought to be on any church enthusiast's list of must-visit west country
churches.
